Request Methods

We prefer to receive Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests via OCLC. If you do not have access to OCLC, please email a completed ALA Interlibrary Loan Request Form (PDF) to interlib@jmu.edu. Be sure to include the contact person's name, email address, and shipping address with your request.

An active email address is required to use our ILL services.

Fees & Billing

We supply material free to VIVA, EAST, LVIS, non-profit Virginia libraries, So6, Soline, and other libraries with existing reciprocal agreements.

Loan Charges

Loans are provided free of charge to all libraries except for international libraries.

• International libraries: $35 IFM or 2 Full IFLA vouchers

Scanning Charges

Scanning charges to all libraries that we do not have an affiliation with:

• U.S. libraries: $8 IFM
• International libraries: $8 IFM or one 1/2 IFLA voucher

Lost or Damaged Items

JMU Libraries does not accept replacement copies for lost or damaged materials.

• A minimum charge of $100.00 will be assessed and invoiced to cover the cost of the item.
• For credit card payment, please call the JMU Business Office at (540) 568-1616. A 2.3% service fee will be added to the total amount due for all credit card transactions

Billing Methods

Billing via OCLC IFM is preferred. IFLA vouchers are accepted for international partners if not participating in OCLC IFM. We do not generate invoices for non-affiliated scanning charges.

Loan Length

General Collection Items

Most items from our general collection circulate for 16 weeks. Renewals may be granted and are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Media & Popular Reading Titles

Media items and Popular Reading books circulate for 4 weeks and are not eligible for renewal.

Due to their fragile nature, media items must be returned in their original boxes using a trackable courier service.

Recalls

All loans are subject to immediate recall if requested by one of our own patrons.

Delivery Methods

We ship all loans within the United States via courier with UPS and FedEx. We ship via UPS Worldwide outside the United States.

We supply articles via Odyssey and OCLC Article Exchange.

Materials Not Available for Circulation

• Reserves
• LP's
• Newspapers
• Rare books

Loan requests for music CD's, periodicals, media, reference, and microform are considered on a case-by-case basis.
