Distance Learners

Distance Learners can use their ILL account to request books and articles be sent directly to their home address. ILL staff will confirm delivery address with each newly registered Distance Learner prior to shipping. Materials owned by JMU Libraries will be sent to you within two business days of the request. If you request a book that is not in the JMU Libraries collection, your request will be shipped promptly after JMU Libraries receives and processes the book. Most articles can be delivered electronically, regardless of whether they come from JMU or another library. To qualify for distance learner library services, you must be a JMU instructor or JMU student registered in a JMU online course and currently living greater than 50 miles from campus. JMU students at home on summer break and not currently enrolled in a JMU course are not eligible for distance learner services. Distance learning students studying outside the U.S. are only eligible for delivery of JMU-owned materials.

Before placing requests be sure to:
  • Fill in your complete home address
  • Choose DISTANCE LEARNER as your delivery location

Return all borrowed items to JMU Libraries on time (allow time for return delivery) using the pre-paid UPS label and shipping pack provided. Remember to change your delivery location and enter a local address when you return to campus.

Contact ILL staff at interlib@jmu.edu with any questions about delivery services.
